Marimar Episode 33

Marimar Episode 33 - The one where Marimar buries her grandparents

Angelika, carrying Fifi, looks on happily at the growing flames from across the ocean, to the island where the Perez' hut is now gobbled by the flames of the fire started by her lapdog Nicandro with the help of the spiteful Natalia. She says, "Marimar, hindi mo ako kaya. Hindi mo kaya si Angelika Santibanez," (Marimar, you cannot beat me. You cannot beat Angelika Santibanez) as she gives out another heartless, cruel laugh.

In Macau, Sergio asks Antonio for their training schedule. He explains that he wants to get a couple of days leave so he can go to the Philippines and check on his wife. An odd feeling has been bugging him: something is amiss and not well with his wife. He would feel better if he sees for himself what is truly the matter back home. His friend Antonio concedes that there may be a possibility to get a few days off. Sergio thanks his friend and pleads to allow him a few days to see his wife. Marimar is his inspiration in this race after all.

Padre Porres arrives at the island and sees the burning hut. He and a young lad help Choi move the unconscious bodies of Pancho and Cruz to a safer place. Marimar runs to her grandparents in tears crying out their names.

Gustavo, Esperanza and Renato dine to seal their deal. When Gustavo asks whether they have a deal, Renato confirms that indeed they do.

Meanwhile Angelika is back at the resort calling the chief of police. She is told that Marimar has escaped. Angelika orders them to do all in their power to capture her back. She even promises a hefty reward should they succeed. Cutting the conversation and replacing the phone, she says, "Kawawang Marimar. Mabuti nga sa iyo, malandi ka kasi!" (A pity on poor Marimar. Serves you right though for being such a flirt.)

It seems that despite Marimar's tragic blows; it is a night of celebration for many: Gustavo, Esperanza and Renato toast to seal their new business partnership; Angelika and Monica drink to their victorious plotting against Marimar; and Nicandro and Natalia get away with arson and murder. When Nicandro asks the young woman whether she is scared, the surprises him with her reply: No, Not afraid, more like happy and excited at the same time. The slimy Nicandro then suggests, "Ba't di na lang tayo ang love team?" (Why not you and me fall in love like a love team?) Natalia suddenly talks to an invisible sister telling her how she's got one up on Marimar. She even introduced Nicandro to her long dead sister. Whether this scares the thug, he did not show it but he was a bit put off by the young lady's apparent lunacy.

Antonio then comes up with a brilliant plan to help his homesick friend. Why not bring Marimar to Macau? He knows someone who can arrange for her ticket and travel papers but they would need her passport. Sergio admits Marimar does not have one and hesitates as it has been impossible contacting her. Antonio says he just needs a picture of Marimar to which Sergio definitely has one. He thanks Antonio for his help but his friend replies that he is only doing this for them to win the race.

At the hospital, the doctor and nurses do everything they can for the elderly couple but they are both declared DOA (dead on arrival). Marimar denies this and cries. Padre Porres tries to comfort her. Marimar begs the goodly priest to talk to God and ask Him to give them back to her. "Kausapin nyo ang Panginoon, sabihin ninyo na hindi ko kaya mawala si Lolo Pancho at Lola Cruz." (Please talk to God, tell him I cannot bear to lose grandma Cruz and grandpa Pancho.) Marimar keeps hugging them and calling for them to wake up. The priest and Choi can only look on with pity for her. It is a long time after Marimar finally accepts that her grandparents are gone. She cries for the lost chance to talk to them, the opportunity to hug them, and regrets that the time they shared together was too short.

The police come to take Marimar away but the priest begs to give her some time to grieve. He assures the police that he will look after her and make sure she doesn't flee. He asks them to respect the dead and give Marimar a chance to bury her grandparents first before they take her away to prison again.

The letter for Marimar from Sergio arrives at the Villa Santibanez but as usual, everything is intercepted and screened by Angelika and her minions, Perfecta and Monica. The package will never reach Marimar.

Marimar rests after a harrowing time with the burning hut and with her grandparents dying at the hospital. She dreams about Pancho and Cruz. They both love her very much and even if they do still want to be around so they can care for her, they now must move on to the next life. They tell their granddaughter to go and find her own family. They ask her to be strong despite all the trials that she is facing and is about to face. They tearfully bid her goodbye in her dreams.

She awakes to find Padre Porres by her bed looking on with pity and understanding. She tells him about her dreams. He reminds her that today is the day they are to bury Pancho and Cruz so Marimar must get ready. He also advises her to be strong as her grandparents had told her. He suggests that prayers and faith can help where nothing else can. Padre Porres gives Marimar a medallion of the Virgin Mary and tells Marimar to wear it at all times. Mama Mary from now on will be her protection and guide.

Pancho and Cruz are buried on top of the hill. Only Marimar, Padre Porres and Fulgoso are in attendance. Only a wooden cross marks each of their graves. Fulgoso bids farewell to the elder couple. Marimar cries on Cruz' tomb, "Napakahirap po para sa akin na mawala kayo ni Lolo Pancho." (It is truly difficult for me to lose you and grandfather Pancho.) She thanks Cruz for taking care of her and for raising her like their own. She tells her that she loves her as she bids her grandmother goodbye. On Pancho's grave, Marimar cries, "Hindi ko makakalimutan lahat ng payo nyo sa akin." (I will never forget all the advice that you have given me.) She also tells her grandfather that he will always be in her heart and she loves him as she also bids her grandfather goodbye.

Police come to take her away in handcuffs and ignores Padre Porres' pleas to give Marimar more time.
